You could also take that same subway ride past Universal one more stop to the heart of Hollywood. In fact I think this 2nd route is quicker if you time the two buses to connect within 10 mins or so. This bus also stops near WB STudios in Burbank where you can swtich to bus 155 which will also get you to Universal. We were so glad that we had persisted to find our way inside. Beautiful stained glass windows, and rich and impressive woodwork on the ceiling beams and altar area. This cavernous Gothic cathedral style space will hold over 2500 people. This lady unlocked the doors, turned on all the lights, and left us to admire the interior. She told us that they have to keep all doors locked, as people have been coming in to take naps inside. As we walked down the hallway, someone caught up with us, and we told her that we were hoping to visit the inside of the Church. Upon entering, we did not find ourselves in the Church, but in what seemed to be an activity center. Made our way through the lot, and found a side door, which was open. Finally, we spied a small sign stating that visitors can enter through the parking lot door. We tried the many large entrance doors, but all of them were locked, and seemed to have been locked for years. This very impressive building, was built in 1927. We really like to visit churches, and once we found out that this one is only five blocks from our hotel, we decided to walk over there.
